What is it and what does it doĬop圜lip is an Mac app that lets you view and manage your clipboard history that lives in your menu bar. The horror! One thing that doesn’t make me angry, however, is the Mac app Cop圜lip. Whenever I hear the word “clipboard,” I think of Clippy. “It looks like you’re writing a letter” never sounded more annoying. Clippy came pre-installed with Microsoft Office bundles from 1997-2003, and just wasn’t intelligent enough to be of much use. Clippy was Word’s built-in “helper,” but he never really did much to help out.

That’s it! Your copy and paste game has been officially elevated.If you grew up in a Windows household in the 90s or 00s, you are sure to remember Clippy. So if your clip is copied from 2 minutes and 12 frames in to your sequence, but you copy to an After Effects comp that’s 10 seconds long, the clip will still be pasted at 2 minutes and 12 frames in to the 10 second long comp and you won’t be able to see it (without more work). The reason we moved the clip to the beginning of the sequence in Premiere is because during the copy and paste process, the clip is copied to the corresponding timecode from Premiere to After Effects.

You can even apply a ton of effects to an adjustment layer in Premiere Pro and copy that adjustment layer into an After Effects comp with the effects in tact! The possibilities are out of this world. If you’re using an effects package that works across Premiere and After Effects, like Red Giant Universe, those effects are copied too! Other things that copy over are transform effects, Lumetri color effects, transitions, opacity and speed attributes. The secret sauce that Adobe uses here gets even sweeter. That’s right, you just copied a clip from Premiere Pro into an After Effects comp. Then jump into an After Effects comp and paste again. Now, select the clip you just paste to the beginning of the sequence and copy it. Īt this point, you’re probably not that impressed. Paste (ctrl+V or cmd+V) your clip and you’ll see it appear on the V2 track in your sequence. Jump to the beginning of your sequence and move the video track target to “V2”. Since we’re interested in finding a specific clip in this stringout, start scrubbing until you find what you’re looking for, Select the entire clip that you’re interested in, right click, and copy (ctrl+C or cmd+C). Editors like to call these types of sequences ‘stringouts’ and they make it much easier to scrub through large amounts of footage very quickly. This sequence has every clip in it that you had previously selected. Premiere Pro then creates a new sequence – with the same name as the clip you right clicked – that matches that clip’s settings (frames per second, resolution, etc). Next, select all of the footage clips you want to look through, right click, and select “Make New Sequence From Clip”.

Name it ‘footage’ or ‘clips’ or ‘jelly beans’ – something that’s at least marginally descriptive to what you’re digging through. To start, open up Premiere Pro and make a new bin (ctrl+B or cmd+B).
